Based on the notion that gymnastics is a sport for everybody, Gymnastics for All is the flagship discipline of the sport. Offering a variety of activities, programmes, events and competitions suitable for all genders, age groups and abilities, Gymnastics for All contributes to personal health, fitness and well-being.
The focus of Gymnastics for All activities is Fun, Fitness, Friendship and Fundamentals, involving:
Gymnastics with or without apparatus.
Gymnastics and Dance.
Girls Artistic Gymnastics consists of four pieces of apparatuses:
Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor
Boys Artistic Gymnastics consists of six apparatuses:
Vault, High Bar, Pommel Horse, Parallel Bars, Floor, Rings
Pre-school gymnastics is very good for children to take part in for many different reasons in the development.
The class is predominantly Fun and structured helping to build confidence and concentration.
It also helps lay and good foundation for strength, endurance (muscular, respiratory, cardio-vascular) agility, balance, flexibility, co-ordination good posture and relaxation. Within the class there social skills are developed by mixing with the other children, sharing toys during the free time, waiting their turn when their on the apparatus, listening to instructions and carrying them out.
Play is essential to their learning process, it is a powerful motivator encouraging children to be creative to develop their ideas, understanding and language.
It will also give them a sense of achievement when they have experimented with a new set up of the apparatus and will help with their confidence to face the unknown, if they fail then they will have the courage to get up and try again.
Above all this class is about “FUN”.
These classes are designed for children who want to take part in the sport with or without the intention of going further, the classes are fun and structured working on basic gymnastic moves such as:
- Forward roll- forward roll to straddle
- Backward roll- backward roll to straddle
- Cartwheels- one handed cartwheels
- Handstands- handstand forward roll
And much more.
Gymnasts get to usethe apparatus and will work on B.A.G.A. badge work.
These classes are for children who participate in the recreational classes that are showing the ability and talent of going further with the potential of competing. THIS IS INVITE ONLY and is up to the coaches.
Artistic gymnastics is the best known of the gymnastic dissiplines, it involves womens events of:
The gymnasts work betweenthe two bars which are at 2 different heights, they perform swings, circling, transitional, release and catch moves.
Beam consists of acrobatic skills, turns, leaps, and dance all if which are taken from the floor and performed on the beam.
The beam is 5 meters long, 3.9” wide and 4” off the ground.
There is little difference between the womens and mens. Both run down the run way and jump onto the springboard and place their hands on the vault performing the vault of their ability.
The women and men’s floor routines are performed on area of 12 meters square. Gymnasts perform a range of movements from dance to acrobatic skills which must show flexibility, balance and strength. Women perform to music, the men don’t.
This involves single and double leg work in the form of circling the legs and scissoring them too while moving around the pommel on their hands and finishing with a dismount by either swinging the body over the horse or landing after a handstand.
The rings are 5.8meters off the ground, the gymnast must perform a routine showing strength, power and dynamic motion while not letting the rings swing, one static strength move must be performed.
The bars are slightly wider than shoulder width apart and swing, balance, release and catch. Moves must be performed along with the dismount.
This is a steele bar that the gymnast performs giants, release and catch moves and the dismount.
Sport acro is done with a partner or partners the categories are:
- Women’s pairs (2 girls)
- Men’s pairs (2 boys)
- Mixed pairs (male base/female top)
- Women’s groups (3+females)
- Men’s group (4 males)
This side of the sport combines strength, flexibility, technical precision and grace.
These gymnasts have to trust each other as they perform skills such as handstands one on top of here do somersaults and various other skills.
They have 3 routines to perform to music:
- Balance: Slow with skill being held
- Dynamic: More upbeat with flight, rotation and tumbling
- Combined: Combines the two above.
This is done on a track- the gymnast will perform 8 skills along the track usually starting with a round off or forward somersault followed by a series of backflips or whip backs finishing with a dismount skill.
For adult 16 years + who would like to participate in gymnastics wither you have never done it or it has been a while since you last gave it a go, come along and try it, it’s a great way to keep fit, tone up and socialise, with the option of competing in the “formers competition” as a beginner or former gymnast. There are 2 competitions a year in Scotland so anyone who would like something to work towards this is an ideal opportunity.
This can be for children or adults alike, anyone who enjoys the sport but doesn’t want to compete can join the display group and go to different events performing and they will receive a participation medal or certificate. There are different events all over the country which can be taken part in.
